The Unicorns, a Canadian indie-rock band that was formed in the year 2000. Nick Thorburn (singer and the reason why the band was even created, Alden Penner) (Guitarist and also background singer), and Jamie Thompson (drumist). Some other instruments they use are cheap electric keyboards that make their music chaotic but also catchy, lyrics sounding meaningness but also meaningful if you dive deeper into the lyrics you see tell that it reflected on the tension the members had on each other...
Nick and Alden formed a band called Poor Alexander, performing a few concerts and writing a few songs; Alden jokes about “no dancing” but in his opinion he loves dancing! Later Jamie joined as a permanent drumist and also changed their band name from “Poor Alexander” to “The Unicorns”. All three had pretty fun stage names. Nicholas Thorburn (Nick Diamonds), Alden Penner (Alden Ginger), Jamie Thompson (J'aime Tambeur). As they kept creating songs they found their album “Who will cut our hair when we're gone?” gaining some popularity and soon their tours had more audience. They’ve made 500 CDs total, not much since their popularity was small but you can find some people selling CDs but if you're lucky enough you can thrift it at a vintage store. The band disbanded during 2004 due to intense internal tensions between members, exhaustion from a relentless touring schedule, and conflicting creative which was hard to keep up the work. The band reunited for a short time in 2014, releasing a new album and touring before leaving once again. Jamie stayed with Nicholas and made a new band called “Islands”, using original songs from “Poor Alexander” that weren’t released on any of “Who will cut our hair when we're gone?”/The Unicorns released albums. Alden joined another band “Clues” and solo touring with his very own music he produced.
